I like the way the red warning light illuminates the windscreen. On the Scania it lights up on the dashboard which draws your attention from the road. Perhaps the new shape Scania is different??

Ha ha. This systems don’t USA trucks have on their best of the best in the world trucks. No Volvo Scania is the best and always with safety in the first line. Specially Volvo.

how many abs fault codes were up on the dash after that? great trucks but their abs system is crap. today 40% of our fleet has abs faults, one has an esp fault another has a signal fault to the i shift. all volvo which is amusing because 30% of the fleet are dafs.

604 people did want to get crushed by truck and didn't like it had good brakes.
ghoulunathics (5 месяцев назад)
this technology works well in test environments but it will mostly lead into dangerous situations in real life, since on it's current level it's not smart enough to distinct when the situation actually requires braking and when it's actually more dangerous. been driving several auto-brake cars myself and every single time they've activated it has been either a steel safety fence on a curve or a traffic divider which i'm fully aware of and going to bypass. luckily there was no ice on the road when my 2 year old mercedes decided to do a full auto-brake in a 80km/h speed on a curve, when it thought that i would ram into the steel fence for god sake. it is going to be a worthy technology some day, but currently when it's unable to actually read the situation and the driver's awareness and plans rather than just reacting on the raw data received it's just fucking dangerous that a such automatic system is able to overwrite the driver's actions when it gets triggered by the environment. such drivers who aren't in a condition to read the situation or are just too underskilled to drive safely don't belong to the streets. it's a legal issue - not an excuse to implement new prototype technology into active duty vehicles that will reduce the driver's control to the vehicle. as long as we assume that the human brain is smarter than the smart technology the human should be the one who's in full control of the vehicle.

vehical controls the braking or a guman does and what happens to any cargo being carried. Is the truck loaded or unloaded and can the front wall of the trailer withstand a shifting load pressing against it?
What’s his face you know that guy (5 месяцев назад)
Now Volvo trucks knows how to run the social media game. Great work. Keep it up. Oh and also Volvo makes cars, construction equipment and tractor trailer trucks. Why doesn’t Volvo make a pickup truck?

How will the system cope with an overloaded truck? Obviously this is going to happen after the trucks normal service life when it will be sold off to the 3rd and 4th world.

Why are these breaking functions programmed to stop so damn close to the object? Imagine on an ice road or a heavily wet road downhill and the tires locks up, it could slide into the object and you need to do some manuvering to find grip again to stop. And for that you need a safety distance. If the tires locks up the last few feet the you're screwed both truck and object.

David Viktora (8 месяцев назад)
Okay, was the truck loaded with a cargo of usual weight, let's say, 30 ton? I think in that case the braking distance would look quite differently :D.
